چکیده

Abstract Land surface and atmosphere are interlocked by the hydrological energy cycles effects of soil water-air coupling can modulate near-surface temperatures. In this work, three paired experiments were designed to evaluate impacts different moisture initial boundary conditions on summer temperatures in Mediterranean transitional climate regime region. area, evapotranspiration is not limited solar radiation, rather moisture, which therefore controls layer variability. Extremely dry, extremely wet averagely humid ground imposed two global models at beginning warm dry season. Then, sensitivity experiments, where alternatively interactive with forced land surface, launched. The state largely affects temperatures: soils contribute lower exacerbate heat extremes, while terrains suppress thermal peaks, both last for several months. Land-atmosphere proves be a fundamental ingredient state, through partition between latent sensible fluxes. coupled runs, early season waves sustained soils, respond hot weather increased evaporative demand, resulting longer-lasting extreme On other hand, when prescribed across season, occurrence days suppressed. climatological precipitation forcing causes temperature drop throughout months, due evaporation water. Results have implications seasonal forecasts rain-fed irrigated continental regions zones.

Native temperature regime influences soil response to simulated warming

Anthropogenic climate change is expected to increase global temperatures and potentially increase soil carbon (C) mineralization, which could lead to a positive feedback between global warming and soil respiration. However the magnitude and spatial variability of belowground responses to warming are not yet fully understood. Some of the variability may depend on the native temperature regimes o...

Restoring Summer Base Flow under a Decentralized Water Management Regime: Constraints, Opportunities, and Outcomes in Mediterranean-Climate California

Seasonal rainfall dynamics in Mediterranean-climate coastal California place pressures on humans and aquatic ecosystems. Without rainfall during summer, residents and land managers commonly turn to streams and adjacent shallow aquifers to meet domestic, irrigation, and recreational water needs, often depleting the water necessary to support stream biota. The potential for adverse ecological imp...

The Factors Governing the Summer Regime of the Eastern Mediterranean

The synoptic scale features over the eastern Mediterranean (EM) for July–August are examined using National Centers for Environmental Prediction–National Center for Atmospheric Research reanalysis data. The region is subjected to two primary factors: mid–upper level subsidence and lower level cool advection, associated with the Etesian winds. The interdiurnal variations of these factors were fo...

Soil water balance and ecosystem response to climate change.

Some essential features of the terrestrial hydrologic cycle and ecosystem response are singled out by confronting empirical observations of the soil water balance of different ecosystems with the results of a stochastic model of soil moisture dynamics. The simplified framework analytically describes how hydroclimatic variability (especially the frequency and amount of rainfall events) concurs w...

Weather regime dependence of extreme value statistics for summer temperature and precipitation

Extreme Value Theory (EVT) is a useful tool to describe the statistical properties of extreme events. Its underlying assumptions include some form of temporal stationarity in the data. Previous studies have been able to treat long-term trends in datasets, to obtain the time dependence of EVT parameters in a parametric form. Since there is also a dependence of surface temperature and precipitati...
